- Who We Are
Dan’s passion for cycling started at the age of 10 whereby mountain biking was his thing. It wasn’t until he was 18 he made the switch to the road realising the longer and hillier nature of road racing suited him better coupled with greater opportunities to travel worldwide.
Dan’s first major result was winning the British National Road Race Championships in 2004. This brought with it a double achievement as an accident whilst out training less than 12 months prior left him with two broken knee caps and the doctors indicating he would never walk again. Needless to say this was all the motivation Dan needed to get back on the bike.
The following 2 years Dan moved to France and rode as an amateur whereby he took wins in the Prix de la St Amour and the Tour de Beaujolais. This then provided him with the opportunity to ride for DFL-Cyclingnews in Belgium. During the season of 2007 Dan achieved top 10 places in the Tour of Britain and the mountainous Tour of Qinghai Lake.
The 2008 racing season Dan spent with An Post/M.Donnelly/Sean Kelly Racing Team whereby his most notable win during this time was coming first overall in the Tour of the Pyrenees. Also during this time Dan obtained good results by overall coming 13th in the Tour of Ireland and 7th in the Tour of Britain.
Dan’s 2009 season presented the opportunity to ride for the Cervelo Test Team with his opening race being the historical Paris-Nice, one of the hardest early races of the season. During his time on the team he obtained a superb 16th in the GP di Lugano and 6th in the Tour of Romandy Team Time Trial. Unfortunately the second part of his season was affected by a broken wrist in May.
In 2010 Dan signed his 2 year contract with the resurrected British Team Raleigh. During his time at Team Raleigh Dan won the National Hill Climb Championships, 7th in the National Championships, 7th in the Tour of the Pyrenees and 7th in the Rutland Melton Classic (UCI 1.2).
Dan retired from professional road racing in 2011 to focus on running Dig Deep Coaching. Still keen to enjoy the bike he rode the mountain bike and ended up competing again this time for his own enjoyment and which included being in the winning team at Wiggle Mountain Mayhem, Wiggle Enduro 6 and Sleepless in the Saddle. With his most accomplished results including 2 x National MTB XC Series Elite podium places, 3rd place National Marathon MTB Championship and 1st place Midlands MTB XC Championships.
